The short film titled “11:58”, created by digital artist Stefan Mayr, is a lovingly crafted reinterpretation of a beloved, classical character. Published approximately 11 months ago on Vimeo, the nearly 12-minute animation was completed after several months of dedicated “weekend work”.

In this heartfelt tribute, Mayr explores his passion for Blender’s cutting-edge hair system, using it to breathe new life into the character’s design. The creative process combined advanced tools—Blender for main modeling and hair, ZBrush for detailed sculpting, and Mari for sculpting realistic body textures. While the artist mentions he isn’t “fully satisfied” with the result, he made a decisive choice to share the project before perfection prevented it ever from being finished.

On the Blender Artists forum, where he shared the behind-the-scenes story, Mayr revealed that his inspiration merged a fascina­tion with the Gremlins franchise and a desire for realistic hair geometry. The ambition grew into a short film rather than just a character model, with the new geometry nodes hair system both praised and described as a bit sluggish, but “flexibility… amazing”
